Marcel Bernat

Product Designer

¡Hola! Marcel here. I’m a Product Designer who loves to break down the complexities of the digital space into fun and accessible experiences. Based in Barcelona, having lived in Berlin before.

I design for over 7 years now. And wow, what a ride! As curious as I am, I've been working for different industries with their unique problems to be solved. I've designed for food delivery apps like Glovo, HR tools like Zenjob and Factorial and daily hotel management systems like Amenitiz.

Here, you will find an overview of my most relevant work experiences and projects. Feel free to request the full case study of each one of them!

This is a preview of my time and contributions at Amenitz.

Amenitiz is an all-in-one platform that helps hoteliers boost profits, save time, and enhance guest experiences. I’ve joined the team as a Senior Product Designer to help improve their Property Management System.

Amenitiz is an all-in-one platform that helps hoteliers boost profits, save time, and enhance guest experiences. I’ve joined the team as a Senior Product Designer to help improve their Property Management System.

In 2023, I joined Amenitiz right when rapid sales growth made it clear that the product needed to scale, not just for small hoteliers but also for property managers and larger hotels.

As part of the Operations squad, I've been involved in projects that have deepened my understanding of the SaaS landscape. I designed an internal tool from scratch for the Onboarding team, which reduced customers onboarding time from 45 days to 15. I also took full ownership of the main customer-facing feature—the Property Management System's Calendar—revamping it to escale to different user segments.

To execute these big projects, I collaborate with a fantastic team. I work closely with my trio consisting of a Senior Product Manager and an Engineering Manager, plus a team of 2 Front-End Developers, 4 Back-End Developers, and an embedded Data Analyst. Together, we plan the squad's roadmap, manage release plans, and coordinate with the C-level, as our squad is the most visible one.

At Amenitiz, we maintain direct contact with our customers. As a user advocate, I lead various discovery projects, often visiting hoteliers in person to better understand their challenges, needs and shadow how they use the product, as well as conducting frequent calls and interviews with them.

This is a preview of my time and contributions at Glovo.

Glovo is a multicategory delivery app operating in Southern Europe and EMEA. I’ve joined the customers App team as a mid Product Designer to help improve customers shopping experience.

Between 2021-2023, I was part of the Shopping Experience team, where I had the opportunity to work on several high-impact projects that contributed to improving the conversion rate, AOV (average order value), and the cart abandonment rate.

Designing for multi-category delivery apps comes with its unique challenges. I worked on a variety of impactful projects, such as informing users when a frequently purchased product was out of stock in a store to minimize frustration, as well as finding strategic ways to display catalogs—ranging from restaurants with an average of 20 dishes to supermarkets with around 2,000 products. These were just some of the many projects I contributed to.

To bring these features to life, I worked closely with a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager, plus a team of one FE Developer, one iOS Developer, one Android Developer, three BE Developers, and an embedded UX Researcher. Given the fact that Glovo operates in +25 countries, I also worked closely with the localization team to ensure seamless experiences across different markets.

My experience at Glovo was one of the most enriching and enjoyable in my design career, thanks to the mature structure of the Product team and the efficient processes in place. I was part of a team of +75 product designers, researchers, and design ops specialists (see picture below). I had the opportunity to present my work during Product Updates at company-wide All-Hands meetings, conduct design reviews with different teams, and participate in various internal initiatives that helped shape Glovo’s design principles.

Beyond design, I was also involved with Glovo's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, Uniqorns, where I contributed to organizing events that educated colleagues and made Glovo a safer and more inclusive workplace.

CaixaBank is the third largest financial institution in Spain. During my time as a consultant at Deloitte, they were my main client and I helped them build their corporate portal.

During 2019-2020, I worked at Deloitte as a consultant responsible for the user experience of various national and international clients. One of my standout projects I led on-site was the redesign of the corporate website for the spanish financial institution CaixaBank.

Redesigning the corporate portal for a publicly traded bank meant navigating strict legal guidelines that directly impacted the user experience. Working closely with project management, we carried out thorough research, including numerous internal interviews, since many departments within CaixaBank wanted visibility on the portal.

Once the research phase wrapped up, we moved into ideation and design. I led focus groups to map out the complex architecture of the new portal. CaixaBank had its own design system, so I analyzed it to identify which components could be reused and where new ones were needed. With a limited budget, I ended up designing five new components that met the portal's specific requirements.

The CaixaBank project was my first major project with a large client, and I consider it a milestone that marked my transition from a junior to a mid-level designer. I learned how to negotiate with clients and work alongside project managers, engineers, and data analysts. Additionally, I gained valuable experience in designing under strict legal guidelines, which deepened my understanding of the financial sector. Overall, It was a project that pushed me to grow as a designer and set me on the path toward product design.

Ways of working

Flexible and open minded

I focus on balancing user needs, stakeholder goals, and engineering constraints. I adapt easily to diverse teams, building trust and ensuring smooth communication.

Proactive and strategic

I don’t just design interfaces—I like being involved in product decisions. I enjoy digging into data, doing research, and talking to stakeholders to make sure we’re building the right thing.

Leadership in action

Even as an IC, I often step up to lead team initiatives. Whether it’s running a refinement or bringing people together for workshops, I try to create a collaborative, open environment.

Focused and authentic

I value getting things done with focus and clarity. I avoid unnecessary meetings and prefer working with teams that are genuine, transparent, and passionate about what they do.
